5th Annual Women’s History Month Student Art Showcase

  • Ursuline College Wasmer Gallery 2550 Lander Road Pepper Pike, OH, 44124 United States (map)

I Will be displaying one of my works, titled: “Is it really the devil’s lettuce if it’s blessed” at the 5th annual women’s history month student art show.

Artist Statement:

“In most of my artworks I love the theme of Duality. A nun smoking can definitely fall under these lines. Inspired by the story of “The Sisters of The Valley”- a convent of nuns who believe in the healing powers of marijuana to a spiritual degree. Although stating they don’t affiliate with religion, they consider themselves to reach back to pre-Christian practice, and believe in spirituality, healing, activism, and feminism. This story has inspired my artwork for how unique it is. I elaborate my image and love to focus on the imagery of how our society is moving and how things once considered to be sinful (whether truly sinful or societally demonized) can even be celebrated now. It speaks of how substance can be just as healing and/or harmful as religion. I in no means want to make this piece an act of attack towards those who are deeply religious, rather I want to use it as a piece to shock others into deeper thought by putting together two seemingly contrasting images.”
